What is the purpose of educational technology in the Foreign Language Department?
enhance curriculum with different resources
engage students through different learning styles
used as a tool to support curriculum
help students to be comfortable using technology as it is becoming more common in schools and the workplace
structured high-interest tool
to assist students that learn in different ways to maximize their understanding of the material
teaches students to use the internet and its resources which will be useful for them in secondary school when they leave Rumsey
To enhance student learning by creating real-world scenarios that can be reinforced in and out of the classroom.
To utilize students’ preexisting technology skills to engage them in learning a foreign language.
To encourage a wide-ranging, and free "discussion" among students and teachers (not just one way), and among students to students (kids go home and talk with their friends about the day's lesson)
To "go beyond the mainstream market of the product." I think a couple great examples of this are the evolutions of Google, and Youtube, particularly with regards to scholarly works (Google docs, Google library), and how on Youtube, you can now watch full length college lectures for free.
